Music by Black Composers: An Introductory Resource, is a document that seeks to expand knowledge and build a more inclusive approach to repertoire. Repertoire and pedagogical choices can often grow out of habit and a narrowness of knowledge, shaped by a history of exclusion and diminished voices. In the Music Division, we are taking important steps to broaden our knowledge by creating a faculty-researched list of works by Black composers to embrace and work toward a more representative world of classical music.
Black Girl Film School designs filmmaking curricula and educational events to bolster the academic performance of girls ages 13-17 years old. Their mission is to increase the number of Black women working and leading in the industry by offering inclusive learning opportunities with a focus on behind-the-camera filmmaking skills.
Have you ever heard “I would love to hire more black people on set. There is just no one out there” Black in Film was formed to eliminate that narrative and increase diversity in below the line crew members.
Black in Post: It’s time to diversify post production. Our post community has historically avoided giving Black artists the opportunity to sit at the table, consequently keeping our post teams comfortably and traditionally white and male. Qualified Black creatives who have attempted to break into our community have often been met with little to no access. Those who do manage to break through the white wall find themselves in environments where their professional abilities are constantly monitored and doubted. Many Black creatives have their careers stunted due to the lack of opportunity to advance. We can do better. It is our mission at Black in Post to bring this exclusionary culture to an end. We are committed to creating pipelines of success between Black post professionals and their career goals. We are a team of Allies and Black post creatives who are working together to create opportunities, educate post departments and build relationships.
Why Blackjobs.com? Our web site features the latest well-paying job opportunities for African American job seekers from companies who are sincerely dedicated to diversity hiring. Ultimately, our goal is to help reduce the high rate of unemployment in Black communities.

The mission of BGDM has been to bolster the creative and professional success of women and non-binary people of color working in the documentary industry, and to challenge the often marginalizing norms of the documentary field. We convene online and in person to provide a nourishing atmosphere where our members and their projects can incubate, and where their careers can evolve in a safe place. BGDM's members are a diverse network of filmmakers and industry stakeholders ranging from veterans with long resumes to newly emerging professionals. Many members work in production as directors, producers, editors, cinematographers, and more, and others work on the institutional side as executives, funders, curators, administrators, academics, and more. Our community is populated by documentary film professionals who self-identify as both a person of color and as a woman or non-binary individual.

Streetlights mission is to assist talented and motivated young adult minorities, many economically and socially disadvantaged, to achieve long term economic stability and career success. To accomplish true diversity in the Entertainment Industry, we believe that a minority talent pool must be created to provide companies with ethnically diverse crew members from a range of job categories – from Gaffer to Grip, from Production Assistant to Producer. To that end, Streetlights breaks them into this creative and well-paying business through entry-level Production Assistant Training. As a Job Training, Job Placement and Career Advancement organization, our ultimate goal is to assist our graduates in advancing from entry level Production Assistant to management track positions and Union crews—and ultimately into the behind-the-camera fields which interest them and for which they show aptitude.
